a little smoky, a little sweet + a whole lot of Halloween magic. 🎃 breaking down the notes behind All Hallows’ Eve, from warm spices + earthy woods to sweet orange + mysterious incense. (no pumpkin spice here!) just a deliciously spooky scent that’s become a Homebody Halloween tradition.
A little spooky. A little sweet. A whole lot of Halloween magic.
So, what exactly does Halloween smell like? (If your answer is pumpkin spice, I love you, but we’re gonna have to get a little more creative!)
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time and place for pumpkins and cinnamon! But when I think of Halloween, I think of something a little darker. A little mysterious. Something that smells like the first genuinely chilly October evening, when the leaves are crunching under your feet, the sun disappears a little too early + everything feels just a tiny bit more moody.
That’s All Hallows’ Eve.
It’s warm, smoky, sweet, earthy + just a little strange. And somehow, all of those things work together to make a fragrance that feels like Halloween without smelling like the seasonal aisle at Target (which I adore, don't come at me!), but you know what I mean!
Let’s get into it :)
First things first: the ✨notes✨.
All Hallows’ Eve is a deliciously moody lil' blend of:
🍊 Orange + orange blossom — A bright, slightly sweet opening with a delicate floral twist. Not aggressively citrusy, just enough to give the fragrance a little glow so it's not all deep, sultry notes.
🌲 Cedar + patchouli — Earthy, woody + grounding. These are the notes that give All Hallows’ Eve its darker, more mysterious personality.
🕯️ Clove + smoky incense — Warm spice meets a little bit of magic. Think old apothecaries, candlelit rooms + something mysterious happening just beyond the trees.
✨ Tonka bean — Soft, warm + subtly sweet. Tonka rounds everything out, giving the fragrance a cozy finish without turning it into a sugary dessert.
Together? A fragrance that’s equal parts enchanting, comforting, and delightfully spooky.
Okay, but what does it ACTUALLY smell like?
Imagine walking into a cozy little house tucked away in the woods on Halloween night. There’s a candle burning somewhere. Maybe a few.
The air is warm + slightly smoky, with a little sweetness floating around. There’s something earthy underneath it all, something floral you can’t quite put your finger on + a soft hint of spice that makes the whole place feel inviting.
It’s not scary. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet. And it’s definitely not your typical fall candle. It’s the kind of fragrance that makes you want to turn off the overhead lights, put on an old Halloween movie, and pretend you have absolutely nowhere to be.
If Halloween had a signature scent, I’d like to think this would be it.
Is All Hallows’ Eve sweet, smoky, or spicy?
The short answer? Yes. :)
The longer answer is that All Hallows’ Eve is a little bit of everything, but no single note takes over.
The orange + tonka bring a subtle sweetness, while cedar + patchouli keep things earthy/grounded. Clove adds warmth without making the whole fragrance smell like a spice cabinet + the incense gives it that wonderfully mysterious, slightly smoky finish.
It’s rich without being heavy, sweet without being sugary and smoky without smelling like an actual bonfire.
Basically, it’s a fragrance with layers. And that’s what makes it so good.
Who’s going to love this scent?
If you’re someone who gravitates toward warm, woodsy, earthy fragrances with a little sweetness, there’s a very good chance All Hallows’ Eve is gonna be your thing.
You’ll probably love it if:
- You prefer moody, atmospheric fragrances over traditional pumpkin-spice fall scents
- You love earthy notes like patchouli and cedar
- You’re a fan of incense, warm spices, and cozy fragrances
- You want your home to smell like Halloween, but in a sophisticated, slightly witchy kind of way
- You firmly believe October is the best month of the year. (Correct.)
And while All Hallows’ Eve is technically a Halloween fragrance, the scent itself isn’t limited to October. If you’re a year-round lover of warm, earthy, smoky fragrances, this one’s for you :)
A little Halloween magic, six years running.
All Hallows’ Eve is back for its sixth spooky season + it’s become Homebody’s best-selling candle of all time. Which is pretty wild, considering it only comes around once a year.
But I think that’s part of the magic.
It’s a fragrance people look forward to. Something familiar that comes back with the changing leaves, cooler evenings + all the wonderful little traditions that make Halloween so special.
And if you’ve read Some Scents Remember Things, you already know that this particular fragrance means a whoooole lot more to me beyond just smelling really, really good.
Some scents are just scents. Others become traditions. All Hallows’ Eve is both.
All Hallows’ Eve is here for its annual October visit, available for a limited time through Halloween (or until it sells out)! If you’ve been curious about what all the fuss is about, consider this your official invitation to find out.
A little smoky. A little sweet. A little mysterious.
And very, very Halloween 👻
