This scent is rooted in one of my favorite memories. When I bought my old house, a small strawberry patch grew wild in the backyard. Apollo would bound down the stairs, free from the leash and concrete sidewalks of city life for the first time. That spring, he discovered his new passion: burying himself in the strawberry patch and munching every berry he could find. He’d emerge with strawberry leaves tangled in his little beard, paws smelling like garden dirt, and the most mischievous look of accomplishment in his eyes.

At first, I tried to stop him — but as he grew older and I carried him outside instead of watching him race down the steps, I realized how much joy those stolen strawberries gave him… and how much joy it gave me to watch. What was once a sneaky habit became one of the sweetest rituals of our life together.

Apollo was my best friend for 16 years. Adjusting to life without him here has been harder than I could ever put into words, but creating Strawberry Patch has been my way of keeping him close. Every time I smell it, I see him scooting out of the bushes, belly full, eyes shining with pride.
